Consider yourself welcomed

Hi.

On this blog we’ll talk about switches.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to run a proper, generic operating system on these switches? Thought so.

Our current research subject is a 3Com 3870. This is a 3com-branded version of the EdgeCore ES4649, SMC87xxML3

Stay tuned for further updates.

    Hello!

Really amazing work. I found out also – that pressing CTRL U during booting after diag – brings you into another menu – password is same “mercury” – also you can simulate the situation by removing runtime file.

Switch can be entered in about 7 various modes (user mode, normal mode, burning mode etc…).

Also – you can update your switch list with SIGNAMAX 065-7729S, TP-LINK TL-SL5428 and also SMC SL5428 – all are ACCTON EDGE-CORE ES3528.

    Now my question….

At the moment I have serious problem – i cant upload runtime to switch. I always get failed after uploading it thruuu x-modem.

Its bix – runtime or its multiple image ? Maybe you have multiple image file – or you can learn me – how to build it from scratch ?

    Thanks for response.

Sorry for my late response. I didn’t notice there was a comment. 🙂

In https://etherhack.wordpress.com/2010/04/12/accton-bix-multiple-image-format/ I describe the format.

You can see at the header whether it is a multiple image or runtime code.

Do you have a copy of the firmware online somewhere? The ES3528 appears to be a different beast than the ES3528, but it does appear (visually) similar to the ES3528M.
I downloaded the firmware for this and saw the following:
      $ hexdump -C ES3528_52M_opcode_V1.1.3.4.bix | head

This 32-byte header indicates a runtime image.

I solved my problem… Anyway thx for info.

Actually, to upload different firmwares you need to modificate in “Koala mode” – HW MODEL TYPE.

Def. best software is Accton original Edge-Core – rest is trash.

I forgot to reply to your post, just searching for few switches and found old chat…
